You have achieved a comfortable financial position and your family is also well settled. It is the best time for you to explore and enjoy the wonderful delights that New South Wales has in store for you. You have always known about this, but somehow could not get protracted periods away from work and other pressures to really go on a long scenic drive and take in the beauty of the place. New South Wales, with its 300km coastline, clean beaches, verdant countryside and national parks, offers something for everybody and it is not a surprise that over 2 million visitors make their way to this place every year. Many from among them prefer to go for long scenic drives on their own so that they can explore the natural beauty of the place at leisure.

From your perspective you must ensure that you do not miss out on these gorgeous attractions:

a) Mount Warning, which is the biggest (extinct) volcano and named so by Captain Cook way back in 1770, would present a unique opportunity for you to delve into the past.

If you are fit enough, you can go up the summit of 1157 m and get a fantastic 360 degree overview of the plains below. Just ensure that you have packed in enough food and water as the journey of about 9kms would take the better part of 5 hours. Do wear appropriate trekking footwear. The place is a treasure house for bird watchers, with over 100 species calling it home. Since this is one of the places in Australia that gets the benefit of the sun much earlier than others, you will do well to start early and enjoy the experience.

b) For a totally different and contrasting experience, you can head to Byron Bay on the North Coast. The drive is a long one and quite scenic. You can continue past Byron Bay and travel a further 75kms to get to Evans Head. This is a perfect family getaway as it has safe beaches and swimming in the river is not a danger. You can go bushwalking and enjoy the adjoining Bundjalung, as well as visit the Broadwater, National Park. Other activities like canoeing, boating and surfing are also possible. The North Coast area as such is also well known for its many festivals and if you happen to be there during a weekend, then do not miss out on visiting the markets to experience the colourful lifestyle that is enjoyed by the residents of this place.

c) The Hunter Valley is another place where you can taste the most vintage of wines and also enjoy local produce while exploring the countryside.

d) The majestic Blue Mountains, at just a couple of hours drive from Sydney, is another place where you can get to see creative arts, craft and aboriginal heritage. The very popular National Park, spread across 1000 square kilometres, is also not to be missed.
