What to Look for in A New Passenger Vehicle

There are many appealing and exciting new cars to purchase and drive in Australia. But to make sure you get the most value for your money, there are several proven and significant factors you need to focus on and be aware of.

Safety

This is most important. No matter how nice the car looks or how superb a price you get, if the car doesn't come with high quality safety ratings from the many automotive consumer magazines, then you should be wary to even consider buying such a vehicle. If the car has been reported to have unstable handling, rollover possibilities, unsatisfactory acceleration, handling and braking, or if it has been known to have any of its major systems continually break down, then it's not wise to purchase such a passenger vehicle.

Reliability

You want to only buy a passenger vehicle that's going to be dependable 100% of the time. This means the electrical and charging system should be powerful enough to always give you strong starts even on the coldest mornings. It also means that costs of ownership should be within reason in comparison to other passenger cars of its type. You should be able to rely and expect that it will continually perform well for many years to come after original purchase.

Fuel Economy

It's not enough just to buy a car that's very stylish or comes in your favorite colour. Since it's likely that you'll be driving it on a daily basis, you need to make sure to purchase a vehicle that has at least moderately good gas efficiency. None of us can control gas and oil prices. So when they go up, we're all hit hard at the pump. If you buy a gas guzzler, you'll definitely feel it in your wallet for who knows how many years as a car owner, and this is not a wise financial decision to make.

Optional Features

You certainly want to look for a vehicle that's very comfortable and has enough leg and head room. These features can come in the form of optional extended length models, models with higher roof heights, and leather or heavily upholstered and padded seats. You should also look for the options you'll be using most on a daily basis, such as air conditioning, a global navigational system, full power accessories, and, if you wish, heated driver and passenger seats with position memory adjustments, which make driving very convenient.

Warranty

Since you're buying the vehicle new, it should definitely come with a warranty. But some vehicles have a more extended warranty than others. Some for as long as ten years. You should only look for new vehicles that have warranties that are a minimum of eight years and that cover all major operating systems repair or replacement costs.
